Does it make any difference which species of wood I choose?
The density of the wood does make a difference. Denser woods tend to be more durable. This is not to say that any wood is dent or scratch proof. However, any dents that may occur will be smaller in dense woods than they wood be in less dense species. For example, if you dropped a can of green beans on a hickory floor, the dent would be smaller and therefore less noticeable than the same can of green beans dropping on a cherry floor.
